American Lung Association based on the award-winning Freedom from Smoking program.
Edward B Fisher & Toni L Goldfarb.
Quite an old book, so about 15 years old BUT it could be an oldie but a goodie.
Author was a smoker, so off to a good start 🙂 This is a step by step guide that you follow to stop smoking. The book looks at why you smoke, the cost of smoking and a new lifestyle to be had in the first few chapters. This is standard practice in all stop smoking books I think. It slightly varies but some variation will be there.
Part two has seven steps to stop smoking in which it takes you through pre quitting up to the first six months after you quit. The final part of the book looks at what to do if you relapse and frustration and a new look at life. There is also smoking resources in the back of the book, this too is pretty standard in most stop smoking books.
One thing I do like about this book is that it tells you to close your ‘back doors’. In this it means that you look at possible reasons why you won’t quit and take action to not use these as an excuse. It is also things that will trip you up and that you will use as an excuse to return to smoking. The book looks at ways to help you quit, NRT and the like and how to get the support you need and helps you develop your own plan to stop smoking.
Whilst this book presents nothing new in regards to methods, it doesn’t make any outlandish claims and for this reason away, i would try it. It is like a good solid dependable mate, not a flash good time mate that buggers off when the hard times come:)
So it may be a little older but I would give it a go to stop smoking.
A thumbs up for this book.
Stay strong and smoke free!!
